Synopsis

Playing with Blocks is the feature documentary about three small town beer drinkers with a World Class Snowcarving problem. Donald C Watt, Michael Lane and Gisli Balzer, from the Yukon Territory, are the current Canadian National Champions, with multiple international wins to their credit. This unlikely and hilarious trio invite us on their global tour, acting as our personal ambassadors into the amazing and passionate world of Snowcarving. In just under six weeks, this team will travel over 48 000 km, carve some 420 tons of snow, celebrate, and inspire the world by doing what they love.

As the boys endure the severe elements and crazy characters, we follow their ups and downs in this vibrant and now global phenomenon. During their international tour the team competes to retain the Canadian National Title and defend their Japanese Grand Championship. Being perennial crowd favourites, which usually gets them into trouble, we get their inside expertise of what snow carving actually is and how difficult and daring it can be.

After a grueling international tour, team Canada returns home to share some of the year’s magic with the Yukon people. However, this year the stage is set under the national spotlight of the Canada Winter Games. With a hand picked team of international reinforcements the boys will try to pull off three of the biggest sculptures in their careers. A couple of beers, sub forty temperatures and we see what it truly means to be a snowcarver and how important it is that you do something you love, with people you love.
